The announcement came through a blog post on the Mi.com community page. While it will presumably make purchases of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro harder for many potential buyers, the possibility of buying the devices offline through official channels will remain, and cash payments will, of course, be possible through that.
The removal of the cash-on-delivery option is one way to combat this, as this will make it harder for mobile phone dealers (who presumably rely on cash for buying and selling of stock) to purchase the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Additionally, cash-less electronic payments also leave a trail, allowing Xiaomi to pinpoint if any particular users or locations are purchasing the device in large quantities.
