Hitler was known for his anti jew policy. It is estimated that the Nazi regime under him killed an estimated 19.3 million civilians and prisoners of war.
But before World War 2 Hitler was actually proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize. Erik Gottfried Christian Brandt, a member of the Swedish parliament proposed Hitler to the Nobel committee in a letter ( members of parliament were allowed to nominate people).
In his letter, Brandt calls Hitler a “prince of Peace on Earth” and ‘ God-given fighter of peace”. He called the Mein Kampf ( Hitler’s autobiography), “the best and most popular piece of literature in the world.”
At that time Brandt was called a fascist and was reportedly banned from several lectures.
In a later interview, he clarified that he meant the letter as a satire and to provoke Hitler and the Nazi regime.
